Darryl Hart Appeared in 1985 Music Video

Posted by Camden Bucey on September 29th, 2009

Or so it seems.  It appears that Darryl G. Hart has recently jumped out of the video for a-ha‘s 1985 hit song Take on Me.  He has brought several other recognized theologian-historians from the animated sketch world with him.  They all will be appearing at Christ Reformed Church in Washington DC for Calvin in the Capital Thursdays this fall from October 8 through November 12.

Calvin 21: The House Wins

Posted by Joel Heflin on August 29th, 2009

Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary held a fine conference this week on Calvin’s enduring significance. Highlights included several fine addresses from Dr. David Murray, Ligon Duncan, and Joe Pipa on Calvin’s greatest merit: the theologian of the Holy Spirit. Derek Thomas and Joel Beeke each delivered heartfelt messages on the great value of Calvin as a theologian, exegete, and above all a pastor.

The cream of the conference: Calvin is a model for preachers of all denominations today. His commentaries invaluable, his letters reflecting tender pastoral care, his love for the church deep, yet ducking the idolatry of supreme imperial authority.

All in all PRTS are gracious hosts serving up generous discounts on books and materials and tended to the (spiritual) welfare of their guests. Audio of the conference will be availible through the PRTS website shortly. Credo Books (Gary Van Der Schaff) had a used book table with loads of good Puritan, Presbyterian, Reformed pastoral books. Check him out: (616) 249-9291.

The following messages were given by Sinclair Ferguson at the 2004 BASICS Conference:

His Sufficient Word – 2 Tim. 3

His Eternal Election - Ephesians 1

His Transforming Spirit - Romans 8

Well, if you haven’t figured out by now, it should soon become abundantly evident that Eric Alexander and Sinclair Ferguson are two living preachers and theologians for whom I have the highest esteem. Robert M. Walker, an elder in Bishopbriggs Free Church of Scotland and committee member of The Scottish Reformed Conference, recently brought these conference audio MP3′s to my attention. The theme of the Conference was ‘Glory.’ You see the titles and download the files below:

ERIC ALEXANDER

The Glory of Christ

SINCLAIR FERGUSON

The Glory of the New Covenant
The Glory of Christian Service

Dr. Jon Payne, minister of Grace Presbyterian Church in Douglasville, Ga, has been bringing in excellent preachers and speakers for the past 5 years for their Reformation Heritage Conference. In 2004, Derek Thomas came and gave a series of lectures on Calvin, Geneva and Reformed Worship. Darryl Hart spoke in 2005 on American Reformation Heritage. Iain Murray came in 2006 and spoke on The Scottish Reformation. In 2007 Carl Trueman spoke on the German Reformation; and in 2008 Michael Horton gave a series of lectures on the Reformation and the Means of Grace.

Upcoming Conference speakers include Paul Jones, Joel Beeke, and Carl Trueman. Jones will be speaking on “The Music of the Protestant Reformation” in 2009. Dr. Beeke will be lecturing on “The Dutch Reformation” in 2010; and Dr. Trueman will focus on”The English Reformation.”

This really is a well thought out Conference. There are not many Conferences that focus on a nation by nation contribution to the Reformation. If you are not familiar with Dr. Jon Payne, I want to encourage you to look out for the forthcoming Christ the Center episode where I talk with Jon about Reformed Worship. Jon has authored two books : John Owen on the Lord’s Supper and In the Splendor of Holiness .

You can watch all of the plenary sessions live at the 2009 Gospel Coalition Conference here. This is one conference I wish I could have been at. Check out some of the speakers, and, if you have time, watch some of the live feeds.

Updates from the 2009 Ligonier National Conference are online at the Ligonier Ministry blog. You can read them here . There will be a live webcasting for the remainder of the conference tomorrow. You can watch the live feed here . At 8:30 AM, on Friday morning, Sinclair Ferguson will be preaching. His message is titled "Hallowed By Your Name: The Holiness of the Father." You have to register first in order to watch the live webcast. You can do so here .
